DA 2025: Post-war architecture in the city centre
04.10.2025 12:30

Raw concrete, austere forms, monumental scale – symbols of the regime, or treasures of Modernism? A guided walk will present post-war architecture in central Prague – buildings preserved, altered, or gone.
We will compare different approaches to reconstruction: the Hotel Fairmont Golden Prague, restored with respect for its design, contrasts with the former International Union of Students headquarters, reshaped almost beyond recognition. Along the way, we will see Kotva Department Store, the Main Railway Station, the New Building of the National Museum and recall the fate of Transgas. What do these changes tell us – and what will truly remain of Prague’s post-war architecture?
The guided tour takes place as part of the Architecture Day festival.
The meeting point is in front of the Faculty of Law, opposite the Fairmont Hotel. The guided tour will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. By attending the event, participants agree to being photographed. Tickets can be reserved via GoOut. The organiser reserves the right to cancel the tour due to illness or adverse weather, with participants notified no later than 24 hours before the event. In such a case, the ticket price will be fully refunded.
